All data is taken from my last.fm account, which I started in early 2017. This list is intended to provide a snapshot of my listening habits over that span of time. It must be taken with a grain of salt; (fairly) often a track will make a huge impact on me, but due to a myriad of reasons, may not make it into heavy rotation. Some examples of these reasons are for disturbing but compelling art and lengthy songs that I don't always have time for. The obscurity of these tracks seem to range from extraordinarily obscure, to relatively niche but well known in certain music communities, to very popular releases (on critics' lists, RYM, AOTY, etc.) I had fun making this, and by limiting it to one track per artist it is more interesting and less cluttered than a last.fm chart, ...

I'm coming close to the end of my college experience, but there's still work to be done...despite, and necessarily because of, this, music has been a refuge and a balm for me. Though it might seem that the rolling of the boulder up the hill is pointless, at least there are things that make it bearable. Below are my 100 top played artists of the year. King Hannah are a severely underappreciated band from the United Kingdom. Their debut, "I'm Not Sorry, I Was Just Being Me" was one of the best rock records to come out of 2022. The album featured a blend of alternative rock, blues rock, psych rock, and, eclectically, some trip hop-ish elements. The songwriting was stellar, the vocals low-key and deadpan but oddly appealing. The staple members of the band are Craig Whittle (guitar) and Hannah Merrick (vocals). A note: since this is a recent band, there are fewer interviews to sift through (i.e. for multiple release years / eras / what have you.  The Joy Formidable are an alternative rock band from the UK that have been on my radar since I first heard  Wolf's Law  in 2013. I have to admit, the only reason I initially noticed them was seeing that album's beautiful artwork while trolling iTunes for interesting new music. Though my opinion of them has fluctuated through the years, I believe The Joy Formidable's discography is worthy of analysis and ranking.
