camusunder's Top 50 Horror Movies of All Time

Horror, when done well, is probably my favorite genre of film. Wide swathes of horror films and subgenres are often derided as "low-brow" by critics, while in fact, horror films that are intelligent and meticulously made aren't actually that uncommon.. Of course, acting, scripts and plotting all vary wildly across the genre, but there are definite highlights and standouts in this regard. In all honesty, in the end, I can't precisely pinpoint why horror is important and cathartic for me. Maybe being scared makes me feel alive, and that's something. Feelings of disquiet are an essential part of being human. There's still a ton I need to explore, especially older horror movies, so I'd love suggestions! Here are my favorites. 50. Spring  ||  Dir. Justin Benson / Aaron Moorhead  ||  2014  ||  Romance, Low Fantasy, Body Horror  ||  8/10 49. The Cabin in the Woods  ||  Dir. Drew Goddard  ||  2011  ||  Sup...

camusunder's Top 25 Favorite Cosmic Horror Films

Cosmic horror is probably my favorite horror subgenre. It relies heavily on the morbid and terrifying unknown. Often characters descend into madness as the unthinkable horrors of an uncaring universe move about them (and us). This list is of my favorites in the genre. Let me know if there are any you like that aren't present; it's an underrated genre with relatively scarce examples. 25. The Whisperer in Darkness  ||  Dir. (Off Topic) - Favorite Fantasy Novels

These aren't really arranged in any particular order. If there's an individual book from a series that I would rate lower than a 4/5, it won't be included. There are also a few series that I still need to finish, and so later novels may not be included.  Please also keep in mind that I am only including novels of which I have a clear memory. For this reason, I have omitted a lot of fantasy that I read as a teen. Fantasy Jonathan Stroud - The Bartimaeus Trilogy     1) The Amulet of Samarkand ||  2003  ||  4.5/5     2) The Golem's Eye  ||  2004  ||  4.25/5     3) Ptolemy's Gate  ||  2005  ||  5/5 Brandon Sanderson - The Mistborn Trilogy     1) The Final Empire  ||  2006  ||  5/5     2) The Well of Ascension  ||  2007  ||  5/5     3) The Hero of Ages  ||  2008  ||  5/5 Robin Hobb - The Farseer Trilogy   ...

Ok, ok, this is a music blog, I know. I thought it might be fun to share my favorite movies as an "off-topic" post.
