Cold & Dark Electronic (Genre Playlist)

Electronic music spans a vast and diverse landscape, but the cold and dark subgenres hold a special place for their atmospheric depth and emotive intensity. These tracks are characterized by moody, intricate production, and often explore themes of introspection, dystopia, and the human condition. The artists in this realm push the boundaries of sound, crafting music that is both haunting and mesmerizing. The past few decades have seen a significant evolution in these subgenres, with innovation and experimentation leading to some truly unforgettable tracks. Electronic production is often associated with newer music...I don't necessarily agree with this, but there is a definite tendency towards some more recent tracks here. Nevertheless, there is a good amount of older stuff in this playlist as well. Below is an unranked (but carefully curated) playlist of some of my favorite cold and dark electronic songs from across the years. Hope you enjoy! 1. The Knife - Silent Shout  ||  S...

2024 Album Ratings (3)

Previous installments: One   ||  Two All of my album ratings for albums released this year (so far). This is the third installment. I've been devoting a proportionally significant amount of time to finding new and obscure records in an attempt to broaden my horizons.  A couple of albums shifted upwards on the list, most significantly the new  Tapir! record. New entries are in green. Note: in general, I will not listen to something unless I think I might possibly enjoy it.  1. Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She   ||  Darkwave, Post-Industrial, Trip Hop  ||   10/10  2. Allie X - Girl With No Face   ||  Synthpop, Darkwave, Electronic  ||   9.5/10  3. An Eldritch Halloween: Unsettling Music (Themed Playlist)

Halloween means different things to different people. For me, there's campy, light horror..."life's no fun without a good scare!" There is great value in that. This particular playlist, however, is devoted to less "fun" songs and more to tracks that actually creep into your brain and refuse to leave, a sour and sinking feeling settling itself on your soul. Unsettling feelings are an essential part of human experience, and should be explored, even if shallowly. Below are a selection of songs that range from mildly unsettling (like a vaguely bad dream half-forgotten after waking up) to straight up disturbing. My thanks to a few of you who contributed suggestions. Only proceed with the greatest caution, friends. 1.  Coil - Something   ||  Post-Industrial  ||  2000  ||   UK 2. Lustmørd - Heresy Part 1   ||  Dark Ambient  ||  1990  ||   UK 3. Radiohead - Climbing Up the Walls   ||  Alternative...

Nimzo Box Set - Industrial

Industrial music is an experimental genre that pulls from punk, electronic, and rock music. Industrial was popularized in the 1980s by bands such as Coil and   Einstuerzende Neubauten, who were known for an abrasive, cold and mechanical texture and flavor that for some was off-putting, but to others intriguing and aesthetically pleasing. Some of it can be quite disturbing, if we're being honest (of course, that's part of the appeal to some listeners, including me). Post-industrial and related genres came much later. They typically feature a less abrasive, smoother sound, with more embellished and polished production, while still retaining a cold and sometimes aggressive aesthetic and energy. Industrial rock, metal, and hip hop, on the other hand, typically stick with a punk ethos and jagged rawness. I know this style doesn't appeal to everyone, but for me, industrial and its subgenres and offshoots (particularly post-industrial) hold great appeal for me. In this box set, I...
