camusunder's Top 50 Horror Movies of All Time

Horror, when done well, is probably my favorite genre of film. Wide swathes of horror films and subgenres are often derided as "low-brow" by critics, while in fact, horror films that are intelligent and meticulously made aren't actually that uncommon.. Of course, acting, scripts and plotting all vary wildly across the genre, but there are definite highlights and standouts in this regard. In all honesty, in the end, I can't precisely pinpoint why horror is important and cathartic for me. Maybe being scared makes me feel alive, and that's something. Feelings of disquiet are an essential part of being human. There's still a ton I need to explore, especially older horror movies, so I'd love suggestions! Here are my favorites. 50. Spring  ||  Dir. Justin Benson / Aaron Moorhead  ||  2014  ||  Romance, Low Fantasy, Body Horror  ||  8/10 49. The Cabin in the Woods  ||  Dir. Drew Goddard  ||  2011  ||  Sup...

camusunder's Top 500 Albums of All Time (Part 1/5)

Hey all! I've been hard at work putting together this list of my 500 favorite albums of all time. It probably sounds silly, but I take this list very seriously. I carefully consider what makes an album impactful to me, and rank them as accurately as possible. These reasons vary, and are often very much subjective. There are objective measures one can apply to determine that a particular album is special (inventiveness, poeticism, technical proficiency, etc.), and these can definitely play a role in what makes an album stand out in my view. Personally, I like different things in different kinds of music. For example, I typically prefer rock music that features strong melodic writing, or, highly experimental. I like my electronic trippy and strange, prefer hip hop with socially conscious lyrics, and metal impacts me more when it is slow and heavy (typically). In the end, this list is just my personal taste. This list (and following entries) are arranged in reverse order. I find this ...

Ranking Low's Discography (Worst to Best)

Similar / relevant lists:  Chelsea Wolfe Ranking , Radiohead Ranking ,  Björk Ranking , The Joy Formidable Ranking Low, the legendary slowcore band from Duluth, MN, has been one of my favorite bands for years upon years. No fewer than four of their records are in my top 300 of all time, with another very close behind. While the genre of slowcore may be (superficially) seen as dour and unenergetic, Low's particular brand mixes gorgeous, heart-stopping melodies and vocal harmonies with lush instrumentation that may provide a more accessible entry into the genre for the uninitiated and curious. They were often downtrodden, but there is always beauty to spare in their music. It was truly a great loss to the world when Mimi died and Low was no more; however, we will always have their work to remember them by. Below, I've ranked Low's discography from least favorite to favorite. I hope this list encourages you to check out this brilliant band! 13. The Invisible Way  ||...
