Top 15 Modern Post-Punk / Post-Punk Revival Albums (after 1999)

Modern post-punk is one of my favorite genres. Combining elements of early punk music and gothic sensibilities, many consider that the genre peaked in the mid to late-80s. For my part, I have thoroughly enjoyed many bands that revived the sound in the 2000s and onward. Hallmarks include angular / sharp guitars, punchy drums and dramatic (and often quite distinctive) vocals and lyrics. There are also various offshoots of the genre that I'll consider, such as dance-punk.

Below are my 15 favorite post-punk albums from the year 2000 and after. Hope you find something you like!

Her and the eponymous band's style is versatile, and, contrary to the views of some detractors, not chameleonic; all of her work is very dark and often gothic, but there are many different facets and angles of her own unique darkness that she comes at in her work. Genres she has explored include ethereal wave, dark folk, doom metal, and gothic rock. In this ranking, I will list my favorite studio albums in reverse order. Nimzo Box Set - Trip Hop

Trip hop is bliss. A genre that came to prevalence during the early-to-mid 1990s in Bristol, UK, trip hop typically features smooth, dark production, laid back downtempo beats, either instrumental or with classy vocals (usually female), sung, not rapped (though there are very notable exceptions). It often includes a distinct psychedelic element as well, hence the name. Trip hop is often considered to be synonymous with downtempo electronic, but there are a few differences; that said, I've included downtempo albums here that are close enough to trip hop. Over the years, trip hop has become one of my very favorite genres of music; in fact, I would say it's as near to musical "comfort food" as I come. In this box set, I list some of the trip hop albums that I consider the best. These are in alphabetical order by artist. This box set is mostly for my own reference, but I'm glad to share it with anyone who might be interested. You can listen to my "Trip Hop Essent...
