May 2024 (Top Played Albums)

A brief recap of my listening habits in May 2024.

Notable trends: more singer/songwriter folk albums, as well as a focus on newly released records. Obscurity ranges from very/mildly obscure to popular. Includes a new addition to my top 50 albums of all time (Katie Jane Garside's Lullabies in a Glass Wilderness). Compared to an average of these posts, there is a (slightly shamefully) low breadth of countries of origin on this list.

The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot (Themed Playlist)

"The Waste Land" by T.S. Eliot  “A heap of broken images, where the sun beats, And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief, And the dry stone no sound of water. Only There is shadow under this red rock, (Come in under the shadow of this red rock), And I will show you something different from either Your shadow at morning striding behind you Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you; I will show you fear in a handful of dust.” “My nerves are bad to-night. Yes, bad. Stay with me. 'Speak to me. Why do you never speak? Speak. 'What are you thinking of? What thinking? What? 'I never know what you are thinking. Think.” The Waste Land is one of the most impactful pieces of poetry that I have ever read. A British work written in the wake of WWI, it is an early example of modernism in poetry, and in fact inspired the entire literary movement almost on its own.
