[Salvaged] Ranking The Joy Formidable's Discography (Worst to Best)

The Joy Formidable are an alternative rock band from the UK that have been on my radar since I first heard  Wolf's Law  in 2013. I have to admit, the only reason I initially noticed them was seeing that album's beautiful artwork while trolling iTunes for interesting new music. Though my opinion of them has fluctuated through the years, I believe The Joy Formidable's discography is worthy of analysis and ranking. Below, I've ranked TJF's albums from least favorite to favorite. Hopefully you'll find them intriguing and check this underappreciated band's work out! 05. Hitch  ||  Released 2016  ||    Hitch , The Joy Formidable's third album, marks for me a definite slump in quality in the middle of the band's discography. Missing is the experimentation of the debut, the passion of the second, and the solid songwriting of the following two. It's a rather uninspired, by the numbers alt-rock that doesn't do much to impress me. I feel like this is s...

Top 10 Worst Songs of the 2010s

Too much positivity on this blog so far! Here's a healthy dose of songs I loathe. Not all of these are objectively  the worst things ever (though I would argue some of them are...ok, maybe most of them), but I despise them all for various reasons. Remember, these are just my opinions, and I don't think any less of you as a person if you enjoy one or more of these. I'm not reviewing these, but on a few I'll provide a bit of explanation. Enjoy, or hate. Honorable Mention: Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (Phonat Remix) 10. Coldplay - A Sky Full of Stars  ||  Released 2014  ||  Dance Pop  ||   ... the point I started to hate modern Coldplay. I'm a huge apologist against snobs who take shots at their earlier stuff, and even Mylo , but I can't stand this song. 9. LMFAO - Sorry for Party Rocking  ||  Released 2012  ||  Electro House 8. Eminem - Chloraseptic  ||  Released 2017  ||  Pop Rap 7. To...

Top 15 Modern Post-Punk / Post-Punk Revival Albums (after 1999)

Modern post-punk is one of my favorite genres. Combining elements of early punk music and gothic sensibilities, many consider that the genre peaked in the mid to late-80s. For my part, I have thoroughly enjoyed many bands that revived the sound in the 2000s and onward. Hallmarks include angular / sharp guitars, punchy drums and dramatic (and often quite distinctive) vocals and lyrics. There are also various offshoots of the genre that I'll consider, such as dance-punk.  Below are my 15 favorite post-punk albums from the year 2000 and after. Hope you find something you like! 15.  Soko - My Dreams Dictate My Reality  ||  Released 2015  ||  Post-Punk, New Wave  ||  France 14.  Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine  ||  Released 2004  ||  Dance-Punk, Post-Hardcore  ||  Canada 13.  A Place to Bury Strangers - Exploding Head  ||  Released 2009  ||  Post-Punk, Shoegaze, Noi...

Top 50 Songs of the 2020s (so far)

Just my opinions, of course. There have been many, many great songs released from 2020 to now. 2021 in particular was a very strong year for music. I'm limiting this list to one per album to keep things interesting. I'll list the artist, song name, album the song is from, genre, release year, and a couple of appropriate descriptors. Hope you find something intriguing from this list! (Note: Ökenpromenad by  lilla gubben is not available on topsters, and so the above image is one album cover off.) 50. Arca - Fireprayer  ||  kiCK iiiii  ||  Track 11  ||  Ambient  ||  Released 2021  ||  dark, meditative 49. Black Wing - Bollywood Apologetics  ||  No Moon  ||  Track 1  ||  Darkwave  ||  Released 2020  ||  depressive, dark 48. Sufjan Stevens & Angelo De Augustine - Cimmerian Shade  ||  A Beginner's Mind  ||  Track 13  ||  Indie Folk...
